Zhong Nanshan, male, Han nationality, Xiamen, Fujian, member of the Communist Party of China, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, well-known respiratory expert, China's leading figure in fighting atypical pneumonia. Zhong Nanshan has been the president of Guangzhou Medical College, the secretary of the party committee, the director of the Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Diseases, the director of the Guangzhou State Key Laboratory of Respiratory Diseases, and the president of the Chinese Medical Association. In October 1936, Zhong Nanshan was born in Nanjing. His father Zhong Shifan is a well-known pediatrician in China, and his mother Liao Yueqin is one of the founders of Guangdong Cancer Hospital. In September 1959, at the first National Games, Zhong Nanshan won the men's 400-meter hurdle championship with 54.4 seconds, setting a national record at the time. He graduated from Beijing Medical College in 1960 (now the Peking University School of Medicine) in 2007; he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom in 2007; he served as director of the State Key Laboratory of Respiratory Diseases in October 2007; and received an honorary doctorate of science from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2014. As of September 2010, Zhong Nanshan has published more than 150 papers in medical journals at home and abroad, of which foreign publications have been cited 81 times by SCI. He has edited the "English-Chinese-Japanese Illustrated Medical Dictionary", "Asthma", "Modern Respiratory Disease Progress "," Interpretation and countermeasures of acute infectious atypical pneumonia "," Clinical diagnosis and treatment of infectious atypical pneumonia ".

Zhong Nanshan has long been engaged in medical, teaching, and scientific research in respiratory medicine. Focus on the research on the standardized diagnosis and treatment of asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, respiratory failure and common diseases of the respiratory system, difficult disease, rare disease, and respiratory critical care. At 10:00 on February 19, 2020, Academician Zhong Nanshan and Harvard University co-founded the Scientific Research Team for New Crown Pneumonia. Academician Zhong Nanshan and his team held another video conference with medical experts from Harvard University in Guangzhou to exchange and discuss cooperation on rapid detection and diagnosis of new coronary pneumonia, clinical treatment, drug screening, vaccine research, epidemiology and other aspects.
